Tory inaccuracy on Boundary Proposals. Here’s the facts.

The Tories have published in their leaflet that they had nothing to do with the Harnham Boundary split.  What utter rubbish!

  • It was the Tories who pushed through the Unitary bid, against local views.
  • It was the Tories who refused my request for a referendum on the Unitary council.  Somerset did and 83% said NO.
  • It was the Tories here in Salisbury who proposed the Boundaries for Salisbury City, thus splitting Harnham.
  • Tory councillors at county hall then forced through this proposal, which split Harnham
  • It was a member of the Tory cabinet who ‘ran off’ down the corridors of county hall with an officer of the council, to ‘cherry pick’ streets out of Harnham, to try and make their proposed Harnham division smaller.
  • They refused to listen to me at the meeting, when i stated that their proposal for St Martin & Cathedral was too big.  It has in fact turned out to be too big!  It is approximately +17% above the permitted variance allowed by the Boundary Committee, who also did not listen to many local Residents who had objected.
  • The Boundary Committee accepted the proposed Boundaries put before it, which were of course drawn up by the Tories and pushed through by them.

Just why are the Conservatives in denial?  Because they don’t want you to know the truth.  But Harnham Residents know better and were involved in the process and many wrote in and objected.

Please click to see the Minutes of the County Council where this was discussed last year.  They clearly show that the meeting was adjourned TWICE, whilst i was speaking trying to defend Harnham and pointing out facts that they did not like – hence the adjournments!  http://194.72.162.210/documents/dscgi/ds.py/Get/File-19094/Minutes.doc

Apologies for the length of this, but i feel as a Harnham Resident myself, the Tory rubbish needs correcting!

Conservatives in disarray

The Conservatives appear to be in complete disarray.  At a meeting of the Joint Overview & Scrutiny Committee last Friday at County Hall, chaos was erupting in their ranks.

Not only were their councillors questioning what is in place if “Area Boards” do not work (the Tory ‘flagship’ in their Unitary bid), but one even announced that he will be standing against an official Conservative Candidate in the forthcoming elections!  They seem to be split right down the middle about the Unitary Council.

City Council Elections Called

Elections to the new City Council have been called and will take place on June 4th.  Voting will take place between 7am & 10pm.  For details, please click:  http://www.salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk/images/PDF/salisbury-city-counci-notice-of-election.pdf

Residents in Harnham will have 3 votes in the Parish election to the City.

Harnham will be a very clear contest between local Liberal Democrat candidates and the Conservatives.

More details will follow here over the next two weeks or so.
