Trees to be saved?

After a packed Area Board meeting last night and a near 9,000 signature petition collected so far, Wiltshire council may over-rule the Vision Board, and delay and withdraw the chopping down of the Market Sq Trees.

This seems likely as a special Area Board meeting will take place on 10th October at 7pm at South Wilts girls school, to discuss the Market Sq project, probably focussing on the Trees and the War Memorial; two of the most controversial aspects of the enhancement.

Information for Residents use

The information about the Vision & the Tree’s is for Public information and does not reflect my opinion, yet!

I must write this as i am a member of the Southern Planning Committee, that will determine this application, probably in October or November.

This does not stop Resident’s from lobbying me, so please carry on!

Conservatives move to fortnightly collections for 2012

Conservatives at Wiltshire Council will push ahead with fortnightly collections in Salisbury in 2012. This is despite Salisbury Residents voting against the move in a household poll.

You must ‘opt-in’ to a free garden waste collection service. This is the freebie for moving to fortnightly collections.

I did not support the move, as it’s a clear cut in services, yet again, to Salisbury tax payers.

Taxi Fares in Salisbury set to double – Consultation out now

Wiltshire council (WC) is currently consulting with Taxi drivers on introducing a new Taxi tariff for Salisbury.

Currently there are 3 charge bands; WC are proposing to increase this to 5 bands, with late night fares set to double.

Many Taxi drivers have contacted me to say that they may go out of business if these new charges are introduced.  Some examples of the new fares:

Currently a 3.5 mile journey for 5 people at 2am costs approx £12.90.  This is set to increase to £24.40 under the new fares!

One Taxi driver has suggested to me that the new Fare from Salisbury to Tidworth, for 6 people, will rocket to nearly £100.

Market Square – 34 Trees to be chopped down

The historic Jubilee trees in the Market Square are proposed to be chopped down to make way for a ghastly modern Market Square enhancement.

The trees, planted in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, we have been advised, are now diseased and need to be chopped down to make way for the enhancements.

Only 17 trees are being proposed as replacements.
