Taxi Fares in Salisbury set to double – Consultation out now

Wiltshire council (WC) is currently consulting with Taxi drivers on introducing a new Taxi tariff for Salisbury.

Currently there are 3 charge bands; WC are proposing to increase this to 5 bands, with late night fares set to double.

Many Taxi drivers have contacted me to say that they may go out of business if these new charges are introduced.  Some examples of the new fares:

Currently a 3.5 mile journey for 5 people at 2am costs approx £12.90.  This is set to increase to £24.40 under the new fares!

One Taxi driver has suggested to me that the new Fare from Salisbury to Tidworth, for 6 people, will rocket to nearly £100.
