Market Square – 34 Trees to be chopped down

The historic Jubilee trees in the Market Square are proposed to be chopped down to make way for a ghastly modern Market Square enhancement.

The trees, planted in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, we have been advised, are now diseased and need to be chopped down to make way for the enhancements.

Only 17 trees are being proposed as replacements.
