Old Blandford Rd crossing point

The construction of a crossing point, near to Grasmere Close on Old Blandford Rd has finally commenced.  Harnham Infant School was successful in its bid for funding as part of its school travel plan, to help children cross the road at this point.

The road will be narrowed to a ‘Pinch point’ to enable pedestrians, mainly school children coming down from the steps, to cross the road easier.

Works will be complete in time for when the schools return after the summer holidays.

Signage and extra street lighting is also part of the plan.

Area Board to discuss new development

Wiltshire council’s (WC) new Area Board will hold a special meeting on 3rd September to discuss the Core Strategy.

Not only is 10ha of new Business land being proposed on Netherhampton Rd, but WC have included 400 dwellings in the development as well.

Harnham Residents are encouraged to turn up en-masse and voice their concerns.  Details of the venue & time will be posted here when they’re known!

Harry Patch: 1898 - 2009

Harry Patch, the last survivor of the Great War living in the UK, has passed away aged 111.  Harry fought in the Battle of Ypres, as my Great Uncle did.
Harry’s death ends an era, who will never be forgotten and comes a week after the death of 113 year old Henry Allingham.

Conservatives push for 400 houses on top of Business relocation to Netherhampton Rd

The new Tory cabinet at Wiltshire Council (WC) meets in the City Hall, Salisbury on 15th July at 10.30am.

For the Agenda click:  http://194.72.162.210/documents/dscgi/ds.py/View/Collection-1759

They will be discussing the Local Development Framework (LDF) that the former Salisbury District Council (SDC) had commenced consultation upon.

Not only are they to pursue the 10ha site near the Cattle Market for Business use (the relocation of Churchfields), as was consulted upon by the former SDC, but they have now made the site far bigger and are to pursue 400 houses in addition to the Business use.

For the WC Core Strategey document click on Item 8 on the Agenda and then click the web address at No17.  The line will not fit on here for some reason as it’s too long!

The new cabinet member responsible for this document is John Brady, who represents parts of Harnham that were ‘moved’ into St Martin & Cathedral division.  He lives in the Woodford Valley.

As Councillors previously, along with Cllr Cheryl Hill, Murial Tomlinson & Dr Helena McKeown, we held a series of public meetings on the LDF and are very aware of Resident’s concerns.  We share those views and will stand up for Harnham against these ludicrious proposals.

There will be another public consultation on these proposals later in the summer.  Details will follow here.
