CALL IN:  If you have a problem and would like this application determined by the Planning Committee and not the Officers, i need to be aware to be able to call this Application to the Planning Committee by 14th July.

Green Light for Lidl..

Lidl has been given planning permission for a store off Southampton Rd, opposite Staples on the J.C Dean site.

About 50 letters in support were received at the Planning department.  I had personally received many emails and letters in support too.

As part of the scheme Lidl will give £300,000 to include a shuttle Bus service, a discount Bicycle scheme and Bus & Train tickets.   All staff on Southampton Rd will be eligible to partake.

Local opposition fails to stop application..

The planning application for 63 Bouverie Avenue has been given planning permission for one new dwelling, despite dozens of local objections.

As the local councillor, i called the application to committee, because of the local interest in the application.

After consideration at the meeting, i moved “Refusal” on the grounds that it was contrary to policies H19 (Housing Restraint Area) & D2 (Infill).  It was seconded by a Conservative councillor who lives in Winterslow.  He spoke in favour of “Refusal” along with a LibDem councillor for Durrington.

I spoke strongly against the application on the above policies and suggested that it would set a precedent.  I also quoted the Planning Inspectors comments, as he had recently “Dismissed” an appeal for one dwelling and another application for five dwellings.  There have been several applications, with various numbers of dwellings for this site.

The vote to “Refuse” was however lost and the Chairman voiced his support for the application.  Several other Conservative colleagues, who do not live in Salisbury, or have never sat on a planning committee before (this showed as one had asked what policy D6 was as she’d never seen it!) seemed to vote en-bloc for “Approval”.  The Conservatives dominate this committee.

I asked for my dissent to be recorded.

The above is an exact account of what happened in the meeting.

LibDems take control of City Council

The Liberal Democrats have taken control of the new Salisbury City Council.

The LibDems won 12 of the 23 seats up for grabs in the June 4th election, with LibDem City Councillors in most of the Wards across the City.

The Tories have 8, Labour 2, & 1 Independent.

Wiltshire Council election result

The Harnham result for Wiltshire Council was a follows:

Brian DALTON  745

Tory  668

UKIP  206

Many thanks for those who gave me personal votes.  Without this, the Tories would have washed out Harnham too.

Salisbury City Council election results

Both myself and Cheryl have been elected to the new Salisbury City Council.  Unfortunately our friend & colleague Andy Thomson was pipped by a Tory, as the third councillor for Harnham.  For the full results, please click:  http://www.salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk/

Thank you!

Can i please just write a personal message to all Harnham Residents, many who i have met, over the past few weeks whilst campaigning around our streets.

The results of the Wiltshire Council & Salisbury City Council elections will appear here shortly.

National Opinion Poll puts LibDems in 2nd place!

An ICM Opinion Poll for the Daily Telegraph, puts Labour in third place, behind the LibDems.

The National Poll show the LibDems on 25%, the Tories on 40% and Labour on 22%.  Click here to read the report:  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/5412679/Disaster-for-Gordon-Brown-as-Labour-falls-below-Lib-Dems-in-new-poll.html

Locally, the LibDems are far higher in %age terms.  Labour are no-where and Tory votes appear to be collapsing.
